1928 Australian films
« on: Wednesday 06 November 13 11:45 GMT (UK) »
In 1928, William R Reed, production manager of Phillips Films, and American cameraman Dal Clawson went on a promotional venture in country New South Wales.  With a script by Jack McLaughlin, they made films in the various towns with local interest.   Some of these films were:
Tam of Tamworth,  Olive of Orange, Priscilla of Parkes and Freda of Forbes.  They also visited Grafton and Lismore and possibly Wollongong.

I tried to investigate the films more about seven years ago, with limited success;    so I am hoping someone can help me now.    Any information, no matter how small, may help.

Thanks to ennael and rosball - I've followed up the trove references.

Interesting that Dal Clawson went broke and left Australia in 1930,   there was a mutiny on the ship he was travelling on - a photographer's dream to record - but unfortunately he had used up all his film while in Australia and had no film left to use!  See

The reference to "Hollywood on Holidays" I hadn't come across before, so thank you for another avenue to explore.  Also I found the court case about the workers compensation claim after that accident in Orange in 1928 in the The Sydney Morning Herald 10 May 1929 see
