Well, it would fit with a posting of George to Gibraltar, and if George isn;t on the 1861 that might explain where he was.

cheers

Wow, I'm impressed!  You all seem to be much better at this than I am.  The family Tricia has found do appear to be mine.  Emily is George Henderson's granddaughter by his eldest daughter Caroline and George White is his grandson by his youngest daughter Annie (at least the youngest I've found) who is my gggrandmother.

This has helped me link my ggrandmother to this family as I've not been able to get her birth certificate to confirm it and she doesn't appear on any census records with them that I've managed to find (born after 1851, in Malta I think in 1861 and married by 1871).

If I continue to struggle to get Annie's birth certificate do you think it would be a good idea to get one of her siblings instead in order to find out her mother's maiden name?  I think I may know it already as I've found a marriage record on freebmd for a George Henderson with one of the ladies on the same page of the register being called Emily Skipper (one of the witnesses at Annie's wedding was called John Skipper), but this would help confirm that.

Many thanks all of you for your help.

You are very welcome and, yes, I think it might be an idea to get hold of another birth certificate.

Now, Paul, where exactly did you lose those keys ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
