Benjamin Baskerville in Tipperary
« on: Monday 11 November 13 14:07 GMT (UK) »
Hey, looking for any info on Benjamin Baskerville 1798-1875, born Tipperary and died Ontario, Canada and his wife Sarah Martin c1805-1891, born in what was Queen's County and died in Ontario.  Both immigrated about 1839 with children Thomas and MaryAnn to Canada (no details known).  Three more known children born in Ontario.  Benjamin listed in son-in-law's bible as being born in Yaughill (or Yanghill) Parish, Bulroo--can not find these exact places listed.  Benjamin's parents may be William Baskerville and Mary Hardy.  Appreciate any info on these folks in Ireland or where to look for them.

I have some unverified information on the Baskerville family. Joseph Baskerville married Catherine Johnston on Oct 27, 1853 in Gloucester township, Carleton county, Ontario. I have him born in Traverston, Co. Tipperary, Ireland, son of John Baskerville and Sarah Hardy. I have John born Castle Otway, Tipperary, Sarah born Dolla, and John is the son of William Baskerville born abt 1760 and Mary Hardy.  Date of marriage for John and Sarah Jan 23, 1812, Silvermines.  All John and Sarah's children born Traverston. I did have Benjamin as a brother to John and I did have Benjamin married to Sarah Martin of Tipperary. As I said, all of this is unverified and I have not researched back into the Baskerville family. I was researching the Johnston family.

just a note on your post, that name you mention must surely be Youghal, county Cork, always helpful if people mention if they know with certainty if there Ancestors were of the Protestant, or Catholic Faith, as there are 2 completely different sets of Records pertaining to both Denominations, Ben

They were Protestant.  I have not found a connection to the Caswells (though they keep showing up).  My family bible states it was county Tipperary, I believe there is a Youghal there, in North Tipperary--I had thought that might be it.  The bible belonged to MaryAnn's husband John Cowan from Antrim and he might have spelled it by how it sounded and she was younger than 10 when she immigrated to Canada.  MaryAnn was also born there.  Thank you for your answer.

I don't believe so, my Benjamin (and wife Sarah Martin) had Thomas b 1829 and MaryAnn b 1832 in Tipperary and they immigrated abt 1839 to Canada.  He then had three more known children in Ontario, one which was William Redmond Baskerville born 1845.  He married Mary Jane Law and raised a family in Canada.

I tried doing a Marriage search for you on the site,,, I.F.H.F.  using the name Benjamin Baskerville, and 2 results popped up, both marriages were in Tipperary, one for 1826, the other for 1829, it will cost you  about 7 Dollars each, 5 Euros, to have a look at them, but they certainly match the time scale you are looking for, no guarantee these are the right ones, but might be worth a bet, the name Baskerville, is so rare in Ireland, don't discount anything you find, most are surely related, and might answer some questions for you further down the line, all the best, Ben
