Migration to Australia - Albert Elric Evans of Cornwall
« on: Wednesday 13 November 13 23:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Wonder if anyone could assist me please.   I am trying to find my Uncle's migration to Australia,
as far as we know he was probably born around 1895-1898 in Wales, he was the son of Richard and Mary Ellen Evans.

As far as we know he came to Australia and disembarked at Adelaide, and slowly made his way to Sydney NSW, he was definitely at Bankstown in 1916, not sure of his age, but he married in 1920 to Nellie Edith Mary New.

If we could find census records also for 1901 and 1911 would be great.

Cheers
Jan

Yes, all that is correct regarding the death of my aunt.  I really don't know what his occupation was in Sydney.  I don't know anything about his family other than they lived in Wales, around Redruth area, or those environs.

AER listing for Albert & Nellie at Bankstown then the area they lived in changed to Greenacre, was at 16 Banksia Street - Albert's occupation 'Labourer'.  I have had a quick look on AER listings and there doesn't appear to be another person with surname EVANS residing at same address.

On C1901 there is an ALBERT R. EVANS bc 1896 with father Richard, mother Mary and siblings Mary E. age 14, John R. 11. This census shows ALBERT born Trefriw, Caernarvonshire, Wales

Thanks Bonnie,
Yes, that is him at 16 Banksia Road, and yes it was called Greenacre at some stage. Labourer as occupation would probably be quite right.

I do apologise, I meant to say Cornwall (not Wales) in the first posting, I know my parents went to Penrhyn or somewhere around there to meet up with his relations way back in 1976, but always knew that he probably came from Wales in the first place.    I think maybe when his parents died, he moved to Cornwall area with other family members.

Hi Jan, presume you are holding off purchasing Albert and Nellie's marriage certificate to see who his parent were?  Also you mentioned he was your uncle - your mother or father's side or was it by marriage to Nellie?  Bonnie
