My GG Uncle ( Nelson Paul Besio) born Sept 1891 Hogansburg, Franklin County, New York USA ( although he might say that he was Canadian). I believe served in the British Military during WWI. This is the only information I can find about him. Nelson Besio Star, Victory Medal, British War Medal service year 1914-1920 Service Location Europe WWI.
I also have 2 letters written to my grandmother in the 1930's indicating he had a son James 10 years old at that time. Family lore says that his wife's last name was Baker and that he took that surname in UK. His wife writes in one of the letters that their son spends time with her family in London in the summer.
The letters return address is this Buckland Wharf W Aylesbury Buckinghamshire. If this sounds like something anyone can help me with I would really appreciate it.

He appears in the Mercantile Marine Medal rolls (on Ancestry), listed as serving on the ship PATIA.

details of the ship can be found here:

If you have a 1930s address - I would recommend starting with the electoral registers for the period (which should be at Bucks records office in Aylesbury).

I don't think they are available online - it would need a visit to the records office and going through the books.

It maybe worth contacting Aylesbury Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies.

Oh, and Buckland Wharf is/was on the Grand Union Canal, about 3-4 miles east of Aylesbury.

There a few photo's of Buckland Wharf in the CBS Historic photo section.

You may already be familiar with this site, but the Northern New York newspapers site has some newspapers from the area where Nelson was born - http://news.nnyln.net/franklin-county/search.html  There is an article about his father turning age 101 in June, 1935, which mentions that son Nelson Besio was living in England.

Hello, I read that you had family living at Buckland wharf, Aylesbury. As addressed in letters. I now live here, and I'm trying to do some background history in my house/the houses! Do you happen to know what number they lived at? If I find out any information about the Hill family, I'll be sure to pass it on.
