Impossible birth date ?
« on: Thursday 21 November 13 06:29 GMT (UK) »
Hello to all,  :D

Just after any opinions and thoughts on an incorrect date of birth.

I have a Scottish 1838 OPR birth which gives a birth date of 31st February.

What should I record as the actual date of birth.

Kind regards

28th or 29th (depending if leap year) - I would guess someone verbally reported it as 'the last day in February' and the person writing had a complete mental block

Record what the record states, anything else is a guess, it could mean the last day of February or it could be the person registering the birth said something like "born 10 days ago" and there was an error in calculation.
Incidentally 31st February is quite a common date see ;

Many thanks for your reply Guy.

This is exactly why I asked my "stupid" question. To get other opinions. I had never come across that as a date before and that link you provided just shows it's not as silly a question as it sounded.  :o

I appreciate your time.  ;D
