I am looking for parents of William Jones Thomas app 1860 Cardiff

His marriage cert says that he was born1860  but he has different ages on census ranging from 1852 in 1901 1857  in 1891
He married Mary Jane Peterson Widow nee Condren abt1857
 Her Dead husband Joseph and her father William Condren 1825 were mariners

The marriage cert 1887 says Williams father was George a Lawyer deceased
 I cant find any trace of him or William

William  I believe first shows in1881 as a Private Royal marines on the "Indus "

There are two William Jones Thomas born in Cardiff according to Free births
I went to buy a birth cert today The Registry office has no trace of the 1854 one and the 1861 one had a father Daniel

I am assuming you have the marriage certificate? If so who were witnesses and what address did William give?
It may be an idea to look at the parish register - sometimes errors are made in transcribing a marriage cert.
First of all -a marriage certificate does not give year of birth - just age given on marriage - I don't think this age was checked -so y.o.b. could differ from that derived from age given.
My Grandfather was 36 when he married -yet when we ordered a certified copy of the marriage (from GRO)age had been transcribed as 30!
You have father George's occupation as "Lawyer" -this is very often a mistranscription of "Sawyer" - so you could be looking for a Sawyer or Carpenter
With regards William's birth reg - around that time sometimes births were not registered so you have to find the baptism

Got marriage cert Witnesses T Rees and Eileen Keefe Address for both Masons Arms Court Cardiff So I need to get hold of Parish Registers
Hadnt thought Lawyer could be Sawyer but it makes sense

1891 they are living at 9 Masons Arms Court Queen St Cardiff -William gives age as 34 and place of birth Shropshire !
Looked at 9 masons Arms Court in 1881 but neither were at that address then

1891 one of William and Mary's daughter's is named Rolinda (although I believe it may be her middle name?

With such an unusual name I wondered if she may be named after a family member

There is Rolinda Kate Thomas b 1856 Cardiff - it seems she became a prison warder.
I have her from 1871 (where she is a servant -until 1901 - but cannot find her in 1861 -with family

Wondered if she may be related to William??

I think I have found the family!!!

The other twin daughter of William & Mary is named Maria on 1891 census
Maybe named after her Gran??

This family seems to tick all the boxes???

this is just guesswork - but could this be George -William 's father as an apprentice Carpenter ?? Fits with possibility of occ "Sawyer"??
