1841 census or baptism records for Torrington
« on: Saturday 18 June 05 10:34 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to find out who the parents of George Howe born 1816 in Torrington were - he became a baptist minister and married Charlotte (nee Crabbe) about 1845 - I am hopeing he might still have been with his parents in 1841

I am fairly sure his father was John How(e) - would be very intersted in any John Howe in Little Torrington

Thanks in advance

Debbie

 Hi Debbie,
These people are the only Hows in Little Torrington.  There  is a George 20 in Plympton Maurice and a George 25 in Woodbury, neither living with their family. Can post full details if you think anyone might be yours.
Regards Jan ;)

Hi Jan

Thank you for finding those for me - I suppose either of the 2 Georges could be mine - but I am not sure how I will tell - unless one of them is involved with the baptist church, by 1851 mine is married and is a baptist minister in Warminster Wiltshire,  the ones you found are probably relatives though - one of his sons was called Thomas

Thanks again

Thank you so much for taking the time to look Jan

Wow Debbi - if you can find it I would be so grateful - however I am wondering if it might be a non-conformist one - still fingers crossed for anything you can find

Dear Debbie,

your fears may be correct as their was not George Howe baptised in Torrington 1814-1820, infact, no Howes of any christian name inbetween those dates.

I did however notice you say John Howe of Little Torrington, but I didnt have time to check for George there, but will do next time and try to find where the non conformist register is for the 2 towns.

Best wishes

Debbi

Hi Debbi

Thank you very much for looking for me - I will keep my fingers crossed for next time - I have found by Googleing that there is a Howe Chaple non-conformist church in either Torrington or Little Torrington - I suspect this might be a possible

Thanks again

I shall go again in soon so I will ask about it for you.You also might like to email the North Devon Record Office in Barnstaple and see if they would let you know if they hold the records of that chapel.

The email address is ndevrec[at]devon.gov.uk
