Elizabeth Jane Hardman
« on: Monday 02 December 13 13:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi!
Can anyone help with the following?

I have an Elizabeth Jane Hardman marrying a George Adey in 1897 at Sunderland. They had four children what I know of:

George Adey 1898, Catherine Ann Richardson Adey 1900, Zachariah 1905 and Mary Ann 1907.

On the 1901 census there is also a Margaret E Richardson born circa 1884 at Sunderland who is listed as a cousin?

Cannot find a census or anything for Elizabeth Jane Hardman. On the 1901 and 1911 it says she was born at Sunderland but have been unable to trace so far.

Any help much appreciated! :)

Have you got the marriage certificate - who does she give as her father? There are a few Elizabeth Jane Hardmans born about 1877, but none, as far as I can see, in Sunderland.

Zachariah was Zachariah Mann Adey (Sep qtr 1905 Durham) - his middle name may be a link to earlier family.

Added: although perhaps on the Adey side rather than the Hardman side as there's another Zachariah Mann Adey, registered Mar qtr 1899, so Mann may be a family name on that side.

Hi,
No I haven't got the marriage certificate as yet. I think there may be a link to the Richardson family on Elizabeth Jane Hardman's side of the family.

The Mann part of the name comes through George Adey's side. I will keep looking but many thanks! :)

Hello
I am researching the Hardman family in Durham, although my Hardmans aren't in the Sunderland area.  Although I can't see Elizabeth Jane Hardman either, I will have a better look tomorrow and check if I have anything in my notes.  Sometimes the Hardman name is transcribed as Herdman.
Sorry! I haven't been much help!  :-[

I can't help but wonder if there's any connection to this pair in Sunderland on 1891

Elizabeth Jane Hardman    54
Isabella Ann Hardman    16
RG12, 4144, 34, 3

especially as their address appears to be very close to George & Elizabeth's on 1911. They are proving elusive though

Chris

Sorry I haven't got back sooner, been helping my daughter who has recently moved house!
I did have a look at my notes but unfortunately these Hardmans don't seem to be in my family.  There weren't so many Hardmans in Sunderland though so maybe if you got the marriage cert of Elizabeth Jane Hardman and George Adey, it would give her fathers name and that may point you to the right family.  I will keep looking though and would be interested if you found anything
