Details on the IFM about Richard Plummer BURGESS & Winifred CALLAGHAN - Winifred also remarried after Richard Plummer Burgess died in 1853 1863.

Don't see how he could be the father of a son born in 1858

http://www.irishfaminememorial.org/en/orphans/database/?surName=Callaghan&firstName=winifred&age=0&nativePlace=&parents=&religion=0&ship=0

*Edited to strike out errors from IFM.

The Southern Cross 15th Friday January 1864
Wreck of the schooner Success. She sailed from the River Heathcote on Sunday, the 27th, bound for Wellington, in command of Captain Brownhill, with a crew of four hands. On arriving in the Straits on 30th she got caught in a S.W. gale. The weather was thick. She struck the shore in Palliser Bay. The mate (Mr Burgess), and a boy Morris, found a watery grave. The mate was well known and respected in Pott, he has till recently a resident in Dampier Bay, Lyttelton; he leaves a widow and several children, now residing in the Heathcote Valley, to lament his loss. The boy, Morris, it appears only shipped in the schooner a few days before she left the Heathcote. The vessel was in ballast and owned by Messrs Brownhill and Co., Christchurch.

Thank you to the cousins who have pointed out other Burgesses: The Elizabeth with a father Richard J Burgess, Master Mariner, is not mine. The set born at sea (registered Tasmania) / born in NZ to Richard Plummer Burgess is mine, including the one, William Henry, who went back to Aus and got lost to us. I've just ordered a birth certificate (Check and upgrade) for Francis, the oldest son of the lot I'm checking now, to see if the Dad was born in NZ. Loud cheers if so. Please keep the ideas flowing meanwhile.

I nearly had conniptions when I saw the Elizabeth, even so. Our (half-sibling) Elizabeth "Burgess" marries John Hiles and lives in Nyangan. She has a PLETHORA of descendants: Godson, Blomfield, Fieldhouse. (Hello! More cousins.) What if I had the wrong one, I thought . . . But no.

Keep Well! And thank you all again.

Re the wrong date on the Winifred Callaghan (ship Maria, 1850) story on the Irish famine Memorial site: Mm. This is because someone took my (and excellent Internet friend Jo's) research results and posted a version without asking / checking. I'm happy for the story to be up there, but a wrong date getting in is not happy-making at all. The site is sulking and won't let me do anything at the moment. (Can anyone make corrections? Good on ya, mate. Or, I'll get around to it.)
