McBrides of Coreen
« on: Friday 06 December 13 03:00 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone sorted out the various McBrides of Coreen and area (Broughshane, Eglish, etc.)?  Three McBrides married three Paul sisters (1870's/1880's) but we are not sure if the 3 McBrides are brothers. John, James and Moses McBride. James seems to be the son of Robert McBride and Nancy_____.
Any McBride specialists out there? Thanks.

Three daughters with father's name Moses Paul married as follows:

1. Nancy married James McBride in 1874, his father was Robert

2. Hannah married Moses McBride, also in 1874 (on a different day, not a double wedding), his father was Robert

3. Sarah married John McBride in 1883, his father was Gardner.

There are McBride headstone inscriptions at 1st Broughshane Presbyterian, I've looked and at least one is relevant to your McBride family with detail such as dates of Robert's and Nancy's death, other children, etc...

The inscriptions are available at:

http://www.historyfromheadstones.com/index.php?home

Added:  I see your issue, the digitised will on the PRONI website...

The Will of Robert M'Bride late of Coreen County Antrim Farmer who died 3 July 1890 at same place was proved at Belfast by the Reverend Robert M'Bride of Dundrod Presbyterian Minister and William M'Bride of Ballymena Teacher both in said County the Executors.

...mentions brothers John, James and Moses, at least you can rule out the John who married Sarah Paul in 1883. And John's index entry mentions Moses:

McBride John of Coreen Broughshane county Antrim farmer died 21 July 1927 Probate Belfast 2 July to Moses Paul McBride and Andrew Armstrong farmers. Effects £59 10s.

Hi gaffy:

Thanks- this is the information I was seeking- the 3 McBrides are NOT brothers. One is the son of Gardner McBride.  One mystery solved!   :)

Taking Broughshane 1st Presbyterian as a possible common theme, an 1870s / 80s timeframe and father Robert, the only John McBride marriage I can find is one to Elizabeth Armstrong in 1877.

Should be a James McBride married to a Mary Jane Cameron, if I am correct.

An older generation: Gardner McBride born c. 1805 married to Nancy Paul (daughter of ?). Robert McBride (possible brother) born c. 1804 married to Nancy_____.  No way of proving if she was a Paul and whose daughter she was.

Our other problem is that we have identified 3 different Moses Paul McBrides. One born 1875 to James M. / Hannah Paul; one born 1853- a brother to James above and another M.P. McBride born 1890, son of John McBride/Sarah Paul. And it seems as if there are more.  ::)

This couple married in 1866 in Broughshane 1st Presbyterian, but this James' father was Gordon McBride.

I dont think that "Gordon" was a common first name in the McBride family.  Could this possibly be a transcribing mistake from a "hard to read" parish register?  I'm thinking that "Gordon" was actually "Gardner"  ??

During World War two, I was evacuated as a baby, from Belfast to a farm in the Coreen Hills, owned by a Willie McBride and his wife Florrie. They had two girls, Isabel and Pauline. The farm was situated adjacent to the Coreen School. After the War my family were invited to spend Summer Holidays there. Iwe spent ts such a beautiful place and we spent many happy Summers there.
