The joy of Scottish first name variants!

Daniel and Donald are interchangeable, see www.whatsinaname.net/php/search.php?action=search2&search_name=daniel

Thanks everyone for the info - Janet's parent's now sorted and certed! That 1841 census (thanks John) doubly confirmed Robertson as Margaret Scott's maiden name.
So for Janet:
Parents - death certs for both (one of the sisters must have married a 'Spalding' as the brother in law signs both their death certs). Daniel's mother was called Janet Lindsay - his father was William.
Margaret's parent were John Robertson and Jane Thomson (no 'p)- 7 generations back!
Daniel and Margaret Marriage cert m.1809 - I had this but could not be certain until I had the other 'pieces'. I now have a complete list of their children - one of whom must have married a Spalding.
So still hunting for Janet and Alexander's death certs - maybe they did move to England? There's that son in Lambeth.
Alexander - I have a birth cert for an Alexander Cochrane born in Caputh 1813 parents Andrew Cochrane mother Nelly Pullar but as I don't have his death cert I can't find out if these are his parents...too many Cochranes to make an assumption....
Cheers
Jen

The other possibility that I saw, and that is also in pencil, is this birth entry for Alexander as he showed a possible Logierait birth place whist staying with the Scotts in 1861 - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VQW9-36X

From the registrations, have you got a first name for son in law Spalding who registered Donald and Margaret's deaths? There is this possible marriage in Blairgowrie for example in 1850 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYS1-YZY

Monica

Added: Ah, must inded be Jane Scott who married a James Spalding, going by this birth entry https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/X1KN-J41

When you are ready to push back further.... ::)...you will find details on Donald Scott's birth https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VQWM-HF4, parents' marriage https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYW6-5B4 and at least 7 or so siblings showing for Donald on https://familysearch.org/search

Monica

Added: Similar situation for Margaret Robertson on Family Search. Whilst I can't see a specific entry for her, her parents' marriage (1762) and siblings entries seem to show on the index.

Helpfully, he signed James Spalding - that's our man then..marrying Jane/Jean Scott b.1814.

On the 41 census Alexander Cochrane is down as 32 (thankfully no rounding this time).  That Caputh 1813 date is too late..1807 is better.

Here is a possible family for Alexander Cochrane, 1881.

Address 34 Ashburnham Road, Greenwich, Kent, England, the ages all fit really well.

Alexander Cochrane, Head, Retired Farmer, M. age 73 years, M. born Scotland,
Jane N. Cochrane, Wife, M. age 70 years, F. born Scotland,
Margaret Cochrane, Daur, U. age 50 years, F. born Scotland.

Not concrete, but daughters age fits as well.

Regards,
Jonn.

That look really promising, Jonn and Jen  ;)

Possible death for Janet?

Jessie Cochrane, aged 72, 1st Qrt 1882, in Greenwich London (vol. 1d/pg. 731).

Not seeing anything possible so far for Alexander.

Hi,
If that's them it looks like Alexander dies in 1884 and Janet (Jessie?) dies in 1882 in Greenwich. I suppose I'll have to order a death certficate to make sure of his parents.  Never had to go below the border before!
