So, a better next move would be to get Matilda's birth cert, to ascertain Ellens maiden name.

think they all have the same mum. i have an earlier census and it has the same mum as matilda. :) thanks for all the help.

Which census do you mean?
If you are referring to 1891, then it is after the possible marriage of George to Ellen Swales in 1889, so you would expect her to be there.

And, as mentioned before, it is hard to get a definite sighting of him in earlier censuses, plenty of possibles, no definites!

Next step surely has to be the birth cert for Matilda, to get Ellens maiden name. Then we can rule that marriage in or out and work out where to go from there.

both albert and matilda were living in blake street at the time of their wedding. But I always thought that people couldnt live together until marriage back then. :)

Just beacuse they gave the same address,doesn't actually mean they were living together.
Just that they used that address so they could marry in that parish.They had to appear to be living in a certain parish for at least 3 weeks before the marriage took place for the banns to be read.
