"England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/J3V7-1V2 : accessed 21 Dec 2013), Henry Hardy, 28 Jun 1816

This is the christening record for Henry Hardy showing his parents to be James Hardy and Sophia Mash so how do I establish the 1841 and 1851 census for James Hardy and Sophia Mash knowing I have the wrong James and Sophia as per the title of this post.  Or do I wait for Marriage cert for Henry Hardy/ Susan Wolsey?

Mike.

Yes - as per my reply above

Henry & Susan's marriage cert will hopefully show his father as James but it is James occupation that is needed for comparison with shoemaker James on the 1841/51.  If the marriage cert shows another name for his father - then you start all over again

Burial for your James Hardy???? (there are no other burials for anyone named Hardy at this church
and as Henry was christened at Beecles this looks like a possibility)

27th June 1822
James Hardy
aged 33
St Michael's Beccles Suffolk

So the James and Sophia Hardy in Norfolk on the 1841 and 1851 censuses are a different family as that James was a shoemaker

Yes, I think they are (as I posted before)

I wonder if the family moved back to Norfolk after James died

This looks like Lydia's marriage:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-12147-10537-73?cc=1416598&wc=MMVP-WVK:n1926471486

and Susanna married in the same parish  on the 11th Oct 1840 (Looks like she was a witness at Lydia's marriage)

Both marriage certificates state father as James Hardy but neither give an occupation.

Blimey Thank you very much, it is great to know we have some experts on here.  Clearly I have been in the wrong county! How come this Suffolk connection did not show up when I looked on FS, FindMyPast, and Ancestry, - inexperience or lack of transcripts from Suffolk. I bet the other siblings will show up on the 1841 and 1851 census.

I take it the reference to Sophia Mash is a transcription error (reply 18).

I have ordered the marriage cert for Henry and Susan.

Merry Christmas :)

Mike.
