Hi Yokel,

Yes I agree with you the two signatures are very similar! the 'H' (Hardy) is a 'carbon copy' all the other letters are a close match too so this seems to confirm the transcription error 'Nash' is in fact Mack  8)

Your reply #23, you listed the children from James and Sophia - St Michaels, Beccles PR's.  Where (for my interest) can these records be viewed on-line?

Regards,

Mike.

Hi Mike

I got those baptisms from the microfilm copy of Beccles PR's at The Suffolk Record Office as far as I know they are not available online.

hi

Quote
Norfolk Marriage Index has

Sophia HARDY and Arthur CARMAN  married 23 Aug 1830 St. Clement's Norwich
this would put her in the same parish as her daughters

Doesn't look like Henry's mother as this Sophia is a spinster

Hi Yokel,

James death record - Beccles, 27 June 1822, is transcribed on FindMyPast but there is no image available.  Is this image available at the Suffolk record office?

Mike.

yes, they have burials from 1586 to 1833 on microfiche

I will take a look for you next time I go to the Record Office, but it might not be for a couple of weeks

might be worth checking the Suffolk Family History Society web site, they have several parish registers on CD if you are interested

Thank you Yokel for your time and effort so far, and all the other experts on here too.  I have ordered the baptism records referenced in your reply #23 from  the Lowestoft Record Office and await Henry's marriage certificate.

I now have the copies of the baptism records for James and Sophia children, these do confirm Sophia's maiden name is indeed Mack not Mash although the maiden names have been added outside the form. - Is this addition normal?

I now have Henry and Susan marriage cert. Henry's father is listed as 'dead'  Henry's profession listed as 'Miller' Marriage place,  Mundford,  Date 9 October 1840.
