High Street Felling
« on: Saturday 21 December 13 01:53 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace the newsagency of High St, Felling. In the 1881 census Ann Turnbull, my great -great grandmother was a newsagent at 4 High St Felling. In 1883 my grandmother was born at 12 High St Felling and in the 1891 census my great grandmother Mary D Turnbull was a newsagent in High Street Felling.
Does a newsagency still exist in High Street and what number may it be?
Thanking you for your time and effort

This is a Google Street View of High Street as it is now http://goo.gl/maps/CpcTV There is not much of the original street left.
You can see the 1897 map at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=427592,561889

Thank you so much for all the information you have posted. I will now write to the proprietors and see if they have any relavent information. I thought it was a coincidence that the proprietors were named J W and A Thompson. My grandmother who was born in High St was a Thompson.

Merry Christmas and all the best for 2014.
