The marriage took place at the register office in South Shields,11th July 1894

Lavinia Ellington Miller, spinster ,aged 21 years, of 70 Saville St South Shields,

The divorce paperwork notes there was no issue of the marriage.

Henry Palmer obviously had a history - he was divorced when he married Lavinia when he was 24.

I wonder if the 1893 marriage was invalid as his divorce wasn't settled?  Yes indeed - they first marry on 4th Feb 1893 (as below). Although his decree nisi was through in Nov 1892, the final decree wasn't made until 19 June 1893.

He's also a little economical with the truth - he gives his age for his first marriage in 1886 as 23, and yet he is 24 when marrying again in 1894!

Henry Edward Palmer was charged with bigamy after his first marriage ceremony to Lavinia - not sure of the outcome

1891 census,Anderson Street Westhoe, Durham
Henry E Palmer, head, aged 25, insurance agent, born Kent,
Charlotte A , Wife aged 22 ,born Herefordshire,
Frank S J, son aged 5 , born Norfolk,
Frank RCarham, aged 28, boarder , accountant. this man witnessed the second marriage,


 This lady never remarried and died in Colchester in 1911, she states she is still married in 1901 , returned to live with her parents, not difficult to find, if you want the details,

Shocked of Tunbridge Wells.

No  joking that has advanced fantastically have now got the 1911 Census for the ' Balcombes' and think can see and understand what Lavinia has done and why, due to thinking at that epoch.
