enoch and ann wakeley
« on: Sunday 19 June 05 17:21 BST (UK) »
I have the family of enoch and ann wakeley in 1881 living at West St Grocer shop, Wrockwardine.  Enoch was aged 64 and his wife ann was 54.
In 1881 they had a daughter Thirsa aged 22, a son Jasper aged 19 and a grandson aged 3.
I would be grateful for any information for this family in 1861 and 1871. It is possible that they had an older daughter ann, born around 1850/55
Many thanks - Caroline

Thanks - no sign of a daughter then called ann born around 1853 but now we have a Henrietta! The mystery deepens!

If you look on the 1881 census, there is  an Ann wakeley age 28 servant in Barton upon Irwell, lancs, born 1853 St Georges salop (shropshire)
tHIS IS WHO i AM TRYING TO TRACE - ANY OTHER IDEAS?
Caroline.

Henrietta married Robert Sharples in Bolton in 1876 and is on 1881 census.
How does Ann fit into all this????
Can you find a ann or Hannah born around 1850/55 at St Georges, Shropshire - anywhere???????
Ann or Hannah wakeley -she gave birth to a son in 1878. This is driving me mad!!!
Caroline ??? ??? :P ???

Could it be Wakeley was a married name? There is an Ann Martin of the right age born in the right place on the census

This is an interesting family who don't appear at all on the 1861 census
1871 census RG10 2748 folio 6     382 Snedshill Shiffnal  Shropshire
Enoch Wakeley 48 French, Shropshire, Head  Married  Labourer
Ann Wakeley 51 St Georges, Shropshire,  Wife Married
Elizabeth Wakeley 23 Princetown, Staffordshire, Daughter  Stone picker
Emily Wakeley 18 Lilleshall, Shropshire, Daughter  Stone picker
Martha Wakeley abt 1855  Lilleshall, Shropshire,  Daughter  Stone picker
Jemima Wakeley abt 1856  Lilleshall, Shropshire,  Daughter  Servant
James Wakeley abt 1860  Snedshill, Shropshire, Son
William Wakeley abt 1862  Snedshill, Shropshire, Son
Enoch Wakeley abt 1863  Snedshill, Shropshire, Son

I older daughter could have left home by 1871.

However this is what you probably want
RG10 2809 folio 26 Wrockwardine  Shropshire
Hannah Wakeley 17 Unmarried Shifnal, Shropshire, Servant

1861 census RG9 1853 folio 86  Yard Barrack Hole? Shifnal  Shropshire
Isaac Wakeley 39  Lilleshall, Shropshire, Head  Married Coalminer
Sarah Wakeley 36  Lilleshall, Shropshire, Wife Married
James Wakeley 13  Lilleshall, Shropshire, Son
Sarah Wakeley 10 Shifnal, Shropshire, Daughter
Hannah Wakeley 8 Shifnal, Shropshire, Daughter
Matilda Wakeley 7  Shifnal, Shropshire,  Daughter
Thomas Wakeley 7 Shifnal, Shropshire,  Son

Sorry no Enoch. Was it essential to have an Enoch for a father?
The other Enoch from the 1871 census I did eventually find on the 1861 census. He had turned into a James!
On the 1871 census Isaac is in Lilleshall with his wife and son Thomas. Next door is William Wakely a widower aged 88 born Lilleshall. With him is his unmarried daughter Sarah aged 51 also born Lilleshall.
On the 1861 census William is still in Lilleshall with daughter Sarah (recorded as an idiot at home) but also his wife Elizth aged 58 born Wrockwardine. William a labourer aged 78 now gives his place of birth as Eyton.

Valda
