The Parish of Bedwellty
« on: Saturday 04 January 14 11:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi Guys,
I'm looking if possible for a Wesleyan chapel in the parish of Bedwellty. This concerns my 3rd great grandfather, Solomon Parker. Solomon was born on the 9th September, 1831 and was baptised  on the 17th October, 1831, according to my information in the Parish of Bedwellty by a Wesleyan minister by the name of Isaac Phenix. So any information on Issac and a Wesleyan chapel in the Bedwellty area would be great. I should add that the family were living in Charlestown at the time, which is the northern end of Blackwood. Many Regards, Dai.
Parker

It looks like Isaac Phenix moved around -so possibly not too much info re the chapel would come from his history
Isaac Phenix was b.Ireland married in Poole Dorset 1841 he was living at St Mary St Wycombe Bucks - 1851 lived at 7 Laurel St Dalston Hackney Middlesex
His probate record is Stoke Newington Mx 1857
He had a son also named Isaac Phenix who was moved to an asylum in 1855
Census etc records if you require them

Are you certain the family lived in Charlestown in 1831 - I noticed they were living in Charletown at the time of the 1841 census - also on 1841 census there is another Mary
Maybe Mary -twin of Solomon died young?

Do you have baptisms for other Parker children ? They should give addresses parents were living at

Hi Suz, Very grateful for your reply, didn't know Solomon had a twin. He did have a sister called Mary born in 1836 and she was born in Blackwood. Solomon's  parents, Joseph and Eleanor moved from Somerset sometime between 1820 and 1828 to Bedwellty for work in the pits. A 1851 census for their daughter Elizabeth has her birth in Blackwood in 1828/29 the next older child was born in Somerset in 1820, hence the move to Monmouthshire between 1820 and 1828. But I have no exact date of the move and where they moved to first. Regards Dai :)
