Carabini / Sweeney any look ups
« on: Sunday 19 June 05 21:53 BST (UK) »
Please can some one help; need info on Kate CARABINI married JOHN SWEENEY probably early/mid 1900s. My mother in law was born Dorset St Dublin N in 1922 and I am sure there were other siblings but we do not know any more than this at the moment. Would be grateful for any help! :(

Have found a Carabini on my wifes side of the family, not sure how common a name it was in Dublin, Benjamin Carabini and Elizabeth are the nanes around 1870s, rumour had it that they had Italian connections in the family and we wonder if this could be the link? Also found the family in 1901 census with a misspelling of Carabeney

davdwill, just in case you hadn't realised, the thread initiator patmca was active here only once in July 2005, so this is an 18 year old thread.

couldn't see a date! But never know

That was the census return I'd found, the marriages seem to indicate family was born in Dublin but I can only find a few records

Thanks

Variations in spelling of the surname doesn't make it easy to find them. Here's Benjamin & family in 1911- I searched for surname as Cara* in County Dublin-
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Dublin/Mansion_House/Cuffe_Street/99940/

Think this is Benjamin's father (also Benjamin)- image not online-
Benjamin Carabini (c1844-21 Oct.1879 at 4 Georges Ct., Dublin), carpenter

A sister Mary born only a few months before father died-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1879/02920/2070020.pdf

And possibly a sister Lizzie (father Benjamin, carpenter)-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1919/09684/5512420.pdf

It looks as though the family have been in Dublin for many years going both by the number in the area and this-
1832 baptism of Caroline Carabina, parents Benjamin Carabina & Caroline Foy-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks for that will look into it.

It maybe just the fact that the name "sounds" Italian that the family believed in the Italian connection or it might be true but much further back in the tree.
