Pollock / McNutt (or Nutt) family
« on: Sunday 05 January 14 04:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi There.  This will be the first of a few posts.  I've traced my grandmothers roots back to Ireland which is exciting.  I've hit a bit of a road block with Ancestry.ca and are hoping someone here might be able to help.

Sarah Pollock was born in Castlewarren Twp, Tyronne, Ireland on 1854-05-23.  She was married in 1880-06-05 to William Hyde in Ontario Canada.  Not sure if that helps or not.  Anyhow, I found a loose reference to her parents somewhere being George Pollock (born around 1820) and Sarah McNutt or possibly just Nutt with the reference indicating they were both from Tyronne.  I found mention of George ("Big George") Pollock in the following link http://www.cotyroneireland.com/churchrecord/donagheadyVestrymen1870.html and that seemed to be relevant given the dates, but I can't seem to find out any other information on him, his siblings, his parents or any information on his wife, her siblings or her parents.  I've seen other Pollock posts but no mention of a George.  Perhaps was a middle name or perhaps the names of Sarah Pollock's parents that I have been working off of are incorrect.  Any help would be great!

Hi,
Not sure if this helps but a George Pollock was baptised in 1831 in Donagheady Church of Ireland. His father was also George Pollock but his mother is just listed as Martha.

My Great Grandmother was Martha Pollock, she was born around 1847 - her father was also a George Pollock.

I checked on Emerald Ancestors, and it says there was a Sarah born on 23 May 1851 and baptized on July 3, 1851 at Donagheady Church of Ireland.

I found a listing of a George Pollock marrying a Sarah Pollock - whose dates match.  http://www.cotyroneireland.com/churchrecord/glendermott2.html - third item down.

(The only Martha Pollock I can find has a father George and mother Sarah - again baptized at the Dongaghheady Church, and her full name is Martha Bell Pollock - so I'm thinking Bell might be the name of one of her relatives?)

I wonder if they were sisters? I also found two brothers - James (1875) and Robert (1879).

Martha married an Andrew Nutt! And their son married Sarah Scott - who became Sarah McNutt (because my grandfather changed his name to McNutt!)

I love this stuff...!
Cumber, Upper and Lower, Londonderry - Nutt, McComb, Cunningham, Rosborough
Strabane, Upper and Lower: Rosborough, Sproule, Buchanan, Tait, Ellis, King,
Donegal: Buchanan, Stevenson, Davis, Connor

Hi,

I am researching the McNutt family and have a Martha Pollock married to Andrew McNutt.  Martha Pollock born 1842  in Londonderry Ireland. Father George.  She married in 1866, Andrew born in Dunfanahagy 1839 ..1883.   Not sure if this helps.

Andrew Nutt and Martha Pollock were my great grandparents.  I'll pm you.
