Samuel Raymond WRIGHT- missing census records
« on: Wednesday 08 January 14 18:52 GMT (UK) »
Samuel Raymond Wright (sometimes known by his middle name) was born 10 Dec.1890 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2908 Walter St.) and died at Veteran's Hospital in Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky.
1900- with family in Philadelphia: Samuel Raymond Wright, Dec.1891, Penn., school, parents b.Ireland)
1910- with family in Philadelphia: Samuel R. Wright, 19, Penn., bookkeeper-shipyard
1917- Waterbury, Conn., book-keeper in garage
1919- honorable discharge from U.S. Army
1920- ?
1930- ?
1935- Louisville, Ky. (according to 1940 census)
1940- Louisville, Ky.: Samuel R. Wright, 1935 same place, 49, Penn., single, high school 4th year, employee conact representative- wage of salary worker in Government work

Have details of him from WWI Connecticut Service Records, 1917 Connecticut Military Census, WWI draft registration card, military veteran headstone application, newspaper obituary. According to one niece (born 1915) "... Raymond went away and when he returned to Philadelphia he couldn't speak. He soon went back to hospital in Tennessee [Kentucky] where he died not long after." Other niece (born 1916) said "voiceless, he worked in an office in Louisville" and suspects an operation for throat cancer was the reason he lost his voice.

What I'm missing is his whereabouts in 1920 and 1930 census records. Can anyone help?

Boy, that was certainly quick, Shelly, thank you so much for those 2 bits of information. Never heard New Jersey mentioned but could have been living just outside Philadelphia.

He was certainly in Waterbury in 1917, in Army 1917-1919, so wonder if he returned to Waterbury in 1919 or was somewhere else in 1920.

Though I would now find him living at 173 Chestnut Ave. in Waterbury in 1920 since he's there in 1920 directory but no sign of him at that address.

Sounds like he was out of town or dodging the census taker.   :-\  I have a few like that.

Suppose there's always the chance he was at another address in Waterbury (or even any other state) in 1920 but before starting the thread I looked under his full name and details and then with just little bits of information (born 1890 Penna. living in Conn., etc.).

Many, many thanks for taking the time to search & find the information from all the directories  :)
