Children of Solomon and Phoebe/Phebe Callear - I'm in a muddle
« on: Wednesday 08 January 14 23:46 GMT (UK) »
I am struggling to identify children of my gt-gt-gt-grandparents who appear to have been born and died in between the various census years.  ???

These are my gt-gt-gt-grandparents:

Solomon Callear (b. ~1838)
Phoebe/Phebe Gill (b. ~1841)

They married ~1863 in Dudley.

The 1911 census records them as having:
8 = Children born alive **I only have 5 names**   :(

3 = Children Alive  **I have possibly 4**  :o
               Alice b. ~1866 Tipton (appears as Alice Dawson in 1911 census) died ???
               Elizabeth b. ~1869 Tipton (appears as Elizabeth Webster in 1911 census) died ???
               James b. ~1875 Tunstall (my gt-gt-grandard - died ~1922)
               Mary Ann b. ~1871 Wolstanton (appears as Mary Ann Hancock in 1911 census) died ???

               Note: I have full census records for all four of the above (so can trace/track their
               marriages/family)

5= Children Dead **I only have 1**  :-\
               Samuel b. ~1870 Wolstanton (died ~1894)

How do I correct this mess????
Callear/Gallear and a growing list of (mis)spellings

One day my family history will become Callear!!

You are never really going to be certain without birth certificates or baptism records but there are the following who may possibly fit on FreeBMD registered at Wolstanton

Samuel b 1877 d 1878
Henry b 1874 d 1874
Joseph b c1864 d 1870
Anne b c1868 d 1868

There is also a Thomas b 1868 and a Daniel b 1870 with no date of death but might have been mistranscibed

Excuse my ignorance - still learning.

So, the baptism record will show the parents names(?)

Yes if you have access to the baptism record (or can get to the archive office) they usually name both parents (some early ones only name the father) its cheaper than buying the certificates
