Apologies to mods if I was in error with my reply#4  , twas only reffering back to what OP had already looked at in 1911.

I suggest that anyone wanting to follow up the original query first looks at the 1911 census entry referred to.

When I said that , it was removed.

So I expect your post will be too.

As to your last point, the heading for that column was that is was for married women only, for their current marriage. Thus did not apply to widows.

heatherjulie,

Thanks for your feedback. My thoughts as shown:

REF: James [#151] I have two records of marriage:
                     1. Martha (d. ~1866) - shown on 1861 census as 'WIFE'
                     2. Ann ?? (d. ??) - shown on 1871 census as 'WIFE'
Your suggested marriage date is 1874 (post-both of the above)  ???

REF: Samuel [#32] - agree with his details

REF: Various census records - agree with his details

REF: Pheobe birth/baptism - agree with details

As to answering the original question about the children of Solomon and Phoebe/Phebe Callear - it turns out I had misread the census record. Big 'Oops!' but at least I'm back on track!!

The James Callear record that I referred to is his birth not marriage. Mother's maiden name Gill

 ;D

Ah, I assumed you meant married but I've just twigged the mmn is probably 'mothers maiden name' - I'm still learning!!  :D

That fits a treat - I know he went on to marry Hannah Finney (my great-great-grandmother)

Thanks for the info (and for bearing with me!!)

I couldnt remember what you has put  ;D so I'm not suprised that it was removed too

Mind you they have removed the information I had put on about their other children which WASN'T off the census and was from a free index
