SP has a marriage for a James Miller and an Emmaleanah H Crichton, 1894, Kelvin. This seems to fit with the 1901 entry.

 :)

Think this is the bit that you're looking for, Bruce:

Quote

Born at Auchtergaven, Perthshire, he trained with local architect Andrew Heiton (of A & A Heiton), then in various offices in Edinburgh.

In 1888, he became staff architect for the Caledonian Railway Company, designing stations and hotels in the West of Scotland, e.g. Botanic Gardens Station, Glasgow (1894, dem. 1970) and Wemyss Bay Station (1903-4).

He established his Glasgow practice in 1893, producing churches, tenements and houses throughout the city and Scotland.

In 1896, he designed the tiny but exuberant St Enoch Square Underground Station (now Travel Centre).

Had trouble finding him in 1891. I eventually had to go to SP!

 James is at 3 Windsor Street, Barony (Kelvin RD). He's down as a lodger but as a separate household. Not sure whether he's lodging with  Janet McGregor,  John Gibb or  John Smith!  I assume that it might be Glasgow tenement/flats. (I think it might have been Janet McGregor)

All it has is:
James Miller, lodger, unm, 30, Architect, b. Perthshire, Auchtergaven

It's here:

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0xkq/

He was at the same address when he married.

~~~~~~
In case you want to go further with Andrew Heiton ~
1881
Kinnoull Terrace Darnick, Perthshire
Andrew Heiton, 58, Architect, b. Inchture, Perthshire
Margaret, sister, 50, b. Forteviot
Thomas A, borther, 38, Architect, b. Perth
Lizzie Granger, niece, 23, b. Callander
1891
Same address but Andrew now born Rossie (on map north of Inchture)
Thanks Gadget
I went to SP and got the 1861 census Jame's father is listed as Inn Keeper
Young James seems to have made a name for himself
I think I will mark this as complete now as my interest is the Centenary of Perth Royal Infirmary.
Thank You Again
