History of Kincardineshire-book recommendation?

Hi everyone,
Sorry Sy 'typo'- at least I've got it correct in my signature below. I've just finished MacCulloch's The Reformation: Europe's House Divided (the best book I've very read) and was looking for something to follow on - looks like Gibbon's trilogy is going to Spain on holiday and a shufftie on Abe books for the other's mentioned. From the Laurencekirk website (link on this thread) I was reminded of just how much the Mearns countryside looks like where I live in France. Now to the old statistical records and a bit of a read before I'm back to sorting out those pesky Jollys...

I have a copy, the index doesn't list any of your JOLLYs but gives a lot of interesting data on the RITCHIEs and their aliases the FATTs along with many other Gourdon families including my maternal line ancestors the FREEMANs

The Old Statistical Accounts for Benholm - VERY interesting read. I had not realised how variable the accounts are some are very dry but that one is great.   I'm starting to think the only way my Captain is going to get a ship is via his (to be confirmed) stepfather Robert Ritchie all the Kincardineshire Jollys I'm looking at are firmly rooted to the land - I must have their blood coursing through my veins as I'm happiest digging and planting! Now you've got me intrigued with those FATTS? This thread is proving a cornucopia of goodies - nothing beats a good read. When you love reading I think you deserve two lifetimes one is just not enough!
