My CONNOLLY ancestry

My great grandfather was JOHN CONNOLLY born Dublin Ireland 1840-42 in Saint Catherines parish. On the 10-8-1859 in Dublin he joined the East India Co Regement ( Madras Fusiliers ) Private 4059 . And from then on his life was well documented. Spending the next 10 years in India ,Returning to the Isle Of Wight U.K. Garrison where he married Jane Groves of Carisbrooke  .. My problem is trying to trace his family back before the 1840s so who were his parents and were there any other siblings ? the only clue I have is that on his wedding cert. of 1874 at Newport I.O.W. he stated fathers name to be LUCKLAN or LOUGHLAN  ( Difficult to read ) CONNOLLY .. Can anyone help me with this please..

that one was born in Wicklow 1803


the only other I could find was Loughlan Conley ..a birth of his daughter but as late as 1867 ....

This is not a direct answer to your query but there just has to be a connection somewhere here.

On 18th June 1780 a John Conelly was baptised in St. Catherine's, Dublin, parents Laughlin Conelly and Elizth Byrn.

I wonder if this could be your John's grandfather, who later called his son Laughlin after his own father?
