Hi Debbie,

I hope you see this!

I have a very good friend who late last year went to Western Australia on holiday and spent some time in the Denmark area. When we were talking today about the wonderful photos he took and shared with me, I mentioned I'd hoped he'd taken one of Mazzoletti Beach. He then told me that he'd purchased a book about the history of Denmark, and that he would check it to see if there was any mention of the Mazzoletti family in it. I now have scans of several pages of the book, and if you would like a copy, just send me an email address in a PM and I'll forward them to you.

I am sure that the John Mazzoletti who settled there will prove to be the son of Giovanni/John and Sarah. There were so many who went from the Eastern States to W A around that time, and the only record for John Junior, other than his birth in 1877, in the Victorian BMDs is the birth of a child in 1902, when it appears he and wife Maria WILSON (Sue posted their marriage in 1899 in W A earlier in the thread) returned to Victoria for a visit.

Dorothy Lilian MAZZOLETTI born 1902 at ST ARNAUD
Father = Jno MAZZOLETTI & Maria WILSON
Ref = 13950

Not that it is impossible but I am beginning to doubt that John and Sarah are in fact *Alice's* parents.

Hi Deb ..
If you are still looking - I research the Mazza tree for a friend who is a relative of William Mazzoletti. Some time back – I came across someone else who was also looking at “Alice” being mothered by “France” but taken on as a “Mazza”.

I have lots of bits and pieces of the Mazza puzzle in Victoria and the WA connection is defiantly there. There is an article in one of the WA papers where the son of John Mazzoletti  - a young Jack Mazzoletti (about 12) was rescued from drowning in a river by an onlooker. I can find the articles for you if you wish.

Hello Rick, and welcome to RootsChat.     :)

Deb hasn't been on the site since mid March, but hopefully she'll get an email to let her know there has been a new post for her on this thread.

I was able to forward her information from the book about the history of Denmark.

Hi all - I saw the Pm and 'mail - so now I am playing a bit of catch-up and you have me doing some work .. I am recompiling my timeline file on the Mazzas.

Denmark initially threw me for a 6 until I worked out it's in WA and then I nearly laughed myself to death.

Trove articles relating to the almost drowning death in the WA - Denmark river of young Jack Mazzoletti during a life saving demonstration (of course)

Far right edge of page 2 , ‘bout mid way down

http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/70136180?searchTerm=Edward%20MAZZOLETTI&searchLimits=sortby=dateAsc

More info, roughly about the center of the article
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/70136789?searchTerm=Edward%20MAZZOLETTI&searchLimits=sortby=dateAsc

Alice was born around the same time as John Mazzoletti was charged for the stabbing at the Alma Flat gold mining area – I made a note that he actually did not do the deed but another Italian arrested with him admitted to it in the eventual trial which I have listed as being on 8 May 1872. I haven’t been able to “re-find” the actual trial info at this point. If John (Giovanni) did any time for his part in the crime – that could explain the delay in the marriage .. anybody got the trial record to save me a mountain of searching as I couldn’t find it easily ??

Just for everyone’s entertainment  .. In Victoria at Kooyong tennis stadium in 1953 - Not recognizing the President of the Tennis association – a “new” ticket inspector who was called Ernest Mazzoletti refused the President entry into the VIP area because he didn’t have a pass .. I wonder if he got into trouble for that ? ..

Hi Debbie,

My friend who visited Denmark and found some information for you last year has just come back from another visit. This time he has returned with a 45 page history of the Mazzoletti family in Denmark, "The Jack Mazzoletti Saga - the story of a pioneer settler of Denmark, W A ". Both my friend and I have found it to be absolutely fascinating reading.

I'll send you a PM.
Hopefully you have email notifications enabled.
