hospital or workhouse late 19th century
« on: Thursday 16 January 14 10:14 GMT (UK) »
Looking for Lewis Orbell born 1867, Suiffolk  living in hospital or workhouse in channel islands, I have checked 1881 and 1891 census which would be the time scale but can find nothing.
Many thanks
Y

Was he George Lewis Orbell? There's a George Orball in the 1881 census at Fort Regent Barracks - a boy soldier aged 14. 2nd Batt 12th Foot

It probably is him his name was Lewis George, he was in the Suffolk Reg and KIA Boer War.
The btn you mention was that Suffolk Reg ? Do you know where I can find more about Barracks?
Thanks

Both battalions of the Suffolk Regiment were in India at the time of the 1891 census (2 Battalion possibly still en route there via Egypt), with a depot in Bury St Edmunds

Presumably you've seen his listing in the probate calendar?
