Neil I think that was Alexander Benning WALKER who was ex-superintendent of police in Goulburn and died in Cremorne http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article16542644

Wondering if this is a possible death for Alexander:

Alexander B WALKER, 79
Date of Registration:   Dec qr 1943

Inferred County:   Warwickshire
Vol 6d, p 663

This is the probate notice for this man:

If this is him   :-\ perhaps Mary was a beneficiary and decided to spend some of her money?  :-\

Hello judb.
thanks for your help, it could well be her brother, will have to do more research on him. Like your theory about Mary inheriting, seems a likely scenario. She must have been a brave lady to take off on her own, good for her! I'm sure she must have enjoyed the lovely warm sunshine after years of Scottish weather.

Thanks cocksie & cupoflife, I'm still unsure about the connection with Mabel Coutts, maybe they were penpals, who knows.

So happy with all the info, thanks everyone.

As Mabel Coutts was the Executrix of Mary's will, she was surely more than just a penpal ???
