Hello again,

Thanks, that would be very useful in trying to work out any links. I actually have ours back to a similar time, which is very exciting! Given that both families are in Old Romney, there has to be some sort of link!

If you'd like to send me a personal message, we can swap notes and see if we can find the connection.

Cheers,
OzJen

Hi again
just finding my way round this site-- it appears I can only use the Personal message facility if, as a new member, I have posted 3 times .. so this is the third time so guess I can do it now. All a bit new to me .. I don't even do facebook! think I would get addicted and waste too much precious time.. I'll save that til I am completely immobile.
looked at your link in your first post re the headstones but am surprised no ref to William or Bertha my great grandparents who must have died before the nineteen fifties as I am certain of my memories of tending headstones with my great aunts in St Clements.. I remember the inside of the church very well too.The fact that some of the Doctor Syn movie had been made in the church and the area was high on the excitement list!
I'll try to see how I can PM you later tonight.

Any relation to William Dowle (1675-1719) or his daughter Dorothy Dowle ( - 1777) who married Daniel Jenkins?

Thank you, every little bit of info helps.  I've just traced William Dowle (1675 - 1719) line back to John Mauntell, born 1385. Never thought I will be able to go this far back.

Yes, it is the same William Dowle, Almare. He was my husband's 7g-uncle.

Wow! I'm a bit 'blown away' by the 1385 date you mention :o - I have an Alice MANTELL, who was William's mother, but I haven't picked up a John MAUNTELL, so far ...  ??? Is this the line you are taking about, please? Getting back that far is amazing!

Thanks for the lead on the twin, Bearkat - I suspected that could have been the case. :)

Hi OzJen
I've now traced the Dowle line of my tree back to some interesting characters.  The last Mantell (Mauntell) I can trace is Tristinus Mantel (1026 - ?).  Then I have Kenneth I MacAlpin Cinead King of Scotland (0810-0859) and Annun Ddu King of Greece (0210 - ?).  I've found www.fabpedigree.com very interesting, although it is clearly stated on the site that the information should not be treated as authoritative.
