when in the royal navy he married a violet Ann Purvis abroad.don't know where she was from.
have received his navy records and nothing on there, also nothing on his barnardo documents.

Being cautious as to the possibility of people still living
Do you believe that Violet Ann died or that they divorced?

I ask the question as there is a marriage in 1948 of a Violet Ann Purvis in Durham
Had they divorced this may be her and of interest

I can see that John remarried in 1951

They divorced, apparently she married him to get in this country then left him,,Durham marriage is not the one as they married abroad when he was in the navy

I didn't expect the Durham marriage to be correct as the groom's name is different but it may shed some light on the story for you; if correct it pinpoints their marriage was before 1948 rather than 1950 and reduces your search time frame

Did you look for the divorce records?

Did they have any children? in UK or abroad to check for clues

If you have his Service Record, then it should say where he was stationed?

And so you can narrow it down somewhat that way. You will then need to ask for a Marriage Look-up on the appropriate Board on here.

Cheers, Romilly.
