Lewis - Chirk
« on: Saturday 25 January 14 23:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi, can anyone help? My Grandfather was George Elias Lewis born in Oswestry in around 1905. He had sisters called Annie Jane, May, Dorothy and a brother called Whit. I know his father was called William and that's about as far as I can go.

The reason being William Lewis is such a common name in that part of Wales. Any help that anyone can give would be appreciated.

Thank you very much for your help. I don't suppose there is anyway you can work out exactly which William Lewis it is? I have tried searching for the name and approximate birthdate but there appears to be more than one.

George Elias Lewis is named on the 1911 census!

While I can't tell you exactly what is on that census (copyright), I CAN use that information. ;D

From that census, I can see how old the children were, and where they were born.
It's then a simple task of finding likely births on FreeBMD.

From 1st July 1911 onwards, the mother's maiden name is listed on FreeBMD.

For father William, you need his marriage certificate.
That will give you his father's name, occupations of both, and address at the time of marriage.
