Scream??!!?? Haven't you heard me over the pond???!!!
This has been a family conundrum for YEARS!!!

When I get home tonight, I will check the marriage cert of John and Jane (1903) to see who John's father is on that piece of paper.

I will also see if there are such people as Farrell Wallace and Mary Johnstone at SP.

It's very possible I have the wrong people as there were 4 John Wallace's born in 1874-1878 in Glasgow and innumerable (it seems!) Martin Wallace's floating around.

sigh.

I have skipped around Scotland and Ireland earlier...cannot see a trace of a Farrell Wallace, never mind one married to a Mary xxxx.

Let's breath in, go back to basics. Maybe revisiting key documents will help. Always hopeful me  ;D

You have a time diffence with the Uk....and you are busy working too like I am also  ;) We will get there for sure with people's help here on RC  :)

Just a thought Monica, you said John Wallace was an informant on both of his parents death certificates. What was his address on those occasions? Also, would the valuations rolls for 1905,1910 & 1915 help locate the correct families? Tenant's names & occupations would be listed.

Can I throw another wrench at all this ..... family lore has it that there are so many mistakes re parentage due to one or the other being of a different faith ie Prot vs Cath.

Possible?

I am confused now...and obsessing  :D And my entire post has disappeared  :'( Try again...

There is a marriage in November of 1914 in Govan. Doesn't make sense though...

A John Wallace and a Janet M Walker. John a 34 yr old widower living at Graham Street in Govan and a mechanics lab. His parents a Farrell Wallace and Mary Johnstone, both deceased. Janet, a 35 yr old spinster, living at Langlands Road, Govan. Her parents William Walker, shipwright and Mary Ann Garrett, both deceased.

 :-\

Added: Marriage in Blythswood, Glasgow by Sheriff's declaration.

That is the one we have from earlier I think....adding to confusion all round.

To solve Lorraine's initial query about the Wallaces with Siobhan Murphy, do you think the certificates/details needed are some of the births Monica found on familysearch 1865 - 1881 to the various Marys? Depending on the father Martin's occupation we may be able to [1] rule out some of the births as NOT Lorraine's family [2] confirm whether Mulcarron & Cairns are the same [3] separate the Govan Martin Wallaces.

The suspense was killing me so I blew some credits;

[1] Henry Wallace death: 29 Oct 1869 26 Victoria St, Govan, aged 1 yr 3 mo teething 3 wks father Martin Wallace shipbuilder's labourer mother Mary Wallace MN Cairns [registered & made her mark]

[2] Margaret Wallace birth: 3 Oct 1871 26 Victoria St, Govan, father Martin Wallace boat yard  labourer [registered & made his mark] mother Mary Wallace MN Cairns married 14 Nov 1861 Co Galway Ireland

[3] Martin Wallace birth: 13 Mar 1873 26 Victoria St, Govan, father Martin Wallace labourer [registered & made his mark] mother Mary Wallace MN Murphy married 1862 February [something illegible] Ireland.

So aghadowey's statement that info about marriage dates on your other thread
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=677084.msg5218828
is proving more accurate than the dates they gave!!!

Lorrain - if you pm me your email address, I'll send you the images.
