Decipher a name - your opinion
« on: Tuesday 04 February 14 22:11 GMT (UK) »
Hello all - I'm trying to work out the name on the bottom line of this snippet, my ancestor was assigned to someone in Bathurst, NSW. I read the name as "Thos. Howe", any advances on that?

Agreed Thos Stone. The s of Thomas is a superscript which means the next letter can't be H. Or at least I think so.

Do you have access to the 1828 NSW Census and/or for General Musters for Bathurst for that period, and/or land Grants for Bathurst etc and if so, what surnames are found on those ?

Cheers, JM (NSW Centric)

Looking up the list ..... Jackson was on a Station....  Comparing the two "St" may be of help to determine if that reads Stone after Thos.
