Julius August Wilhelm MOLDE, Neustadt, Holstein, Germany
« on: Wednesday 05 February 14 07:34 GMT (UK) »
Julius August Wilhelm Molde was born 26 April 1895, Neustadt, Holstein, Germany. This info came to me via his Australian Naturalization and Cemetery headstone in Adelaide, South Australia.

Can anyone tell me where Neustadt, Holstein is/was in Germany and anywhere I can trace the line further?

His father was Joachim Molde and lived in the burg of Fehmam, Holstein according to the marriage notice of Julius and Augusta Wilhelmina Lecher in Adelaide, South Australia in 1879.
I have found a couple of ship's records naming a Joachim Molde as an assistant engineer on board the "Chemnitz" and trimmer on board the "Sommerfield". Whether it is the same person is yet to be proven.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Chris,

you can see Neustadt here:  http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neustadt_in_Holstein. It's in German, the English version does not tell much. The island just off the mainland is Fehmarn, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fehmarn. You are lucky, it's in English.

Regards Peonie

added: Rootdigger Emigrants Database shows a Julius August Wilhelm Molde b. 1853. accused of not showing for military service and emigrating without permission. Seaman

Hello again,
Well I have chased up the suggestions and found my Julius Molde in some records on line. However, the Genealogist I have contacted on this site actually charges for any research in Holstein, Germany.
He has quoted the basic price for him to research at the archive there. (He said that the Archive does not allow people to photocopy or photograph records so he has to find, transcribe and translate them. Is this correct please? does anyone know?)
Then of course one would have to pay extra for every record he finds.
I realise he makes his living doing this...maybe I'm a bit tight!!!
I see the genealogists on "Who do you think you are" and wish I had their help, but faced with the unknown, I hesitate!  ??? :( :-\
Maybe it would feel different if I were going over there but that is out of the question.

Just some thoughts...

Chris

Hi Chris,

checked with the main archive site for Schleswig-Holstein and it states it's up to the different archives if they allow cameras or copies. To save some money you could have no translations
and just put it up here.

I think I know who you are talking about. He used to have a lot of his research on the internet for free and changed later to professional researcher.

The other thing is you could go here: http://forum.ahnenforschung.net/ scroll down to Schleswig-Holstein and ask for help.

Good luck, Peonie
