Can Rootschat Members Help "The One Show" - James McKINNON, Glasgow
« on: Wednesday 05 February 14 19:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

The BBC One Show are looking for help - can "Rootschatters" crack this one ????

WWI Victory Medal – descendants wanted
The One Show needs your help in finding the descendants of a man who fought in the First World War.

A viewer recently contacted us to say that her father-in-law had found a WWI medal thrown in a skip in the mid-1950s, and that she now wanted to pass it on to a descendant.

Combining research carried out by our viewer with that done by The One Show, we now know this much:

The recipient of the Victory medal was a Private James McKinnon who had served with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders under regimental number 6643, and the Labour Corps.

He received a British War Medal in addition to his Victory medal and may have been injured at the front. His Victory medal was found behind Tollcross Road, Glasgow, in around 1955 so he may have been local to the area.

Get in touch now if you are related to a James McKinnon, possibly from somewhere near Tollcross Road in Glasgow as this medal is yours.

Sandra, I think it would be a good idea to put your thread on Rootschat Scotland too. (Keep it on both). Search function shows up a lot of interest in McKinnons, some in Glasgow. I note one telling how part of a street in Glasgow was demolished in the '60s, maybe a clue there as to the reason for getting rid of stuff?

It would be great if Rootschatters could do a "Bristol Bear job" again, and find this man's family!

Moderator comment: Title amended to show the soldier's name and origin.
