Fingers crossed that we have found the correct descendant. [Have found the hyphenated names.]

Good to have her birth year of 1935 confirmed.........

I think reply #24 has confirmed in my mind.  There do not seem to be any other W A Bridge's on military roll from NZ. William and Nora seem to be English originally.  I have also found a name of a potential grand daughter, but we should be right to reunite the photo now.

Have now sent emails to two possible direct descendants that we have mentioned.  Hopefully emails are still correct.

Thanks very much, everybody.  This is turning out to be a very interesting discussion.  I'm certainly very grateful to minniehaha for the various newspaper links provided.  It's so good to be able to read a bit of detail about Lt Bridge.

There's no doubt in my mind now that Lieut W A Bridge in my photograph is Lt William Arthur Bridge of the NZA's 2nd Anti-Tank Regiment.

A little more from 'Papers Past'.......

'Auckland Star' dated 13.1.1940- "Ready to Act, Anti-Tank Unit". This article mentions New Zealanders in the UK forming an anti-tank unit, one was Lieutenant W. A. Bridge. (There is a photograph of the men in the unit but unfortunately W. A. Bridge was absent.)

Another mention in the 'Evening Post' dated 21.3.1940 which says W. A. Bridge was from Wellington.

Unfortunately, despite having a good look, I haven't been able to find either of these articles on the Past Papers site.  Could you please let me know on which pages they appear?  Many thanks.

I'd also be very grateful if you could do a death notice lookup for me in 1986.  There is a very good chance that this would provide some information about next of kin.

Thanks very much.

David

Hi David,

On 'Papers Past' go to "More Search Options"-

Reports in: The Evening Post dated 22.11.1939, page 4.

The Evening Post dated 13.1.1940, page 12.

The Auckland Star, dated 21.3.1940, page 5.

As Nova67 has already sent messages to (possible) descendants of W. A. Bridge, perhaps the newspaper death notice is no longer required?

The daughter has been found and contact established and it appears she thinks the photo is the same as the one she has. I am sure Your Ancestors will post on this later.
