Grieves family from Dudley Northumberland
« on: Sunday 09 February 14 19:24 GMT (UK) »
Trying to find relations to Robert Grieves b.1816 married to Ann b.1822 (with added words beside her name ,W Brunton),where I think she may have been born. Wondering what her surname was and families to their three sons John b.1841,James b.1846 and Robert b.1852. Margaret D b.1845 was my great grandmother and married Robert Oliver.b.1845. Info.  on anything and any member of this family is of interest to me.Robert ,farther,was overman in colliery in N Shields  ,son John  was deputy overman and James employed in colliery ,aged 14. Perhaps all in Dudley Colliery,living in 4 Office Row , Dudley in 1861.

There is a possible marriage in 1840 showing up on the North Tyneside Registrar's site:
Robert Grieves married Ann Brown.

To be certain you need to follow Trevor's suggestion and get the birth certificate of one of their children.

Does this have a Australian connection?
If not someone has a very mixed up Tree on Anc.
They have Ann Grieves as dying in Victoria, name Mary Ann Grieves nee WILSON;
Name:    Mary Grieves
Death Place:    Rheola, Victoria
Age:    76
Father's Name:    Wilson
Mother's Name:    Betesy Laidlaw
Registration Year:    1898
Registration Place:    Victoria
Registration Number:    9394
Estimated Birth Year:    abt 1822

Last Census they have for Robert/Ann and Family is the 1871

This is incorrect as the Ann Grieves Married to Robert is still in England and Widowed 1881/1891
1881 she is under Ann GREAVES born c 1822, Brunton, Northumberland.
She has a Grieves Neice with her.

FreeBMD has a couple possible Marriages in 1840 for Robert with Anns on the page;
June 1840 Tynemouth  (Ann BROWN)
Sept 1840 Newcastle (Ann SMITH). This one has only 7 names on the page so 1 female is missing.

So the Birth Cert of Margaret is really necessary if you want to trace back with this Family.

With 2 Robert/Ann Grieves around with Children of a similar age it is somewhat confusing.

Trish :)

The Tynemouth marriage is the one I mentioned in reply #5

The Newcastle marriage is between Robert Grieves and Mary Wilson ( per Newcastle Registrar's site)
