SP has a Peter Thompson death 1977 Inverness , born c1901 , mother's maiden name McDonald.

If that is the correct one , it may be that he was born just after the 1901 Census.

Added - correction , I see there is a Peter on the 1901 details provided by Monica.

Adding marriage Norrie Thompson(1936 Inverness , Inverness) -

Margaret McDonald a little more straightforward to find. This looks to be her birth entry here https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYGT-Y7J  Some siblings born in Greenock (Ruth https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQ7N-H56 and Peter https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQTL-124 for example).

Possible entry for 1881:

Mary McDonald 36 Joiners Wife b. Ireland
Peter McDonald 13
Ruth McDonald 11
Margaret McDonald 7
Ann McDonald 5 b. Urquhart

Address: Drumnadrochit, Urquhart and Glenmoriston

Roberts fathers occupation was a house carpentier (master) as far as I can work out but the cert

What was Robert Thomson's mother's name? Nothing obvious yet jumping out for him. Hopefully having mother's name for him may help  :)

The 1911 census entry for the family would help you in re-confirming names for the household etc. I think the family show, from general searches, as you would think in Inverness. On this possible census entry (remember, I haven't seen it, just general search), the Robert I came across was aged 40.

There is this possible entry for a birth in Aberdeen https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYT4-H2N in 1870 and then this 1881 entry - everyone born in Aberdeen:

Robert Thomson 48 plumber
Elizabeth D Thomson 16
William Thomson 14
John S Thomson 12
Robert Thomson 10
Mary Ann R Thomson 8

Address: York Place, Aberdeen St Nicholas

A Robert Thomson married Ann Anderson, 1869, Old Machar, Aberden City.

Note, two different spellings of Thomson/Thompson have crept into this post.

Malky

Thompson (with the p) being the more standard English spelling of the surname....The Scottish version is normally without the p.

Good find Malky!
