Ah, so she didn't come over with or to join Anton?  Hmm, it will be interesting whether any under-age children are listed on his certificate.  Still, as I said, his parents and their nationalities should be listed.

"My mother had an idea that Anton, and maybe even Cecilija could have been from Germany. Whenever he always used to visit Germany and never Croatia or surrounding areas, because all the relatives were in Germany. It could have been possible that when the war started they fled Germany and settled in Yugoslavia."
i guess it was more vice versa! ;)
they were maybe Danube Swabians.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danube_Swabians
http://www.danube-swabians.org/
and the name is not "directly jugoslavian". ;)
Germany has 301 results at phonebook for the name: http://www.dastelefonbuch.de/

was the area Syrmia or Slavonia west of Danube (Donau) in now Croatia?
http://www.dvhh.org/syrmia/
http://www.dvhh.org/slavonia/
map for Danube Swabian areas with names in german - see for yours -> Slawonien and Syrmien!

when they were Danube Swabians (i think so) - read their history if this is possible - then it was vice versa. they lived Yugoslavia because their ancestors settled there and came from german-lingual areas. this must not be always Germany, can also have been as example from Austria. this happened nearly 200 years before or much later. then at WW2 they had to go away. i do not know WHEN yours did come to UK. this would clear up some. came they before or after WW2?

and the area they lived in Yugoslavia (before 1919 it belonged to Austrian-Hungarian Empire) was then Syrmia or Slavonia, when you state it´s now Croatia. it would be great if you could research where are from they came there. maybe to find out at documents in UK....? so you could start research with a placename.

Hello,

Just found out some new information from my grandfather.

He said that he was born in the now Serbia. Because of WW2 he had to move with his family all the way to the now Croatia. His family was kept in a camp for a few years and then they moved on to work on a pig farm, where Cecilija passed away.

He said the place where he lived, but I couldn't quiet hear it. It was something like Milkvoch, or something like that.

ok, understand now how it was - i know the facts to WW2 - this makes sense.
but at moment not clear about the placename - which is meant. similar would sound Mikanovci?!
but really only a guess. it is west of Vinkovci, Slavonia, Croatia.
https://www.google.at/maps/place/Stari+Mikanovci/@45.2701486,18.5586462,12z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x475c5816a294c603:0x2625cb4a41e06e43

in Serbia will have been then Banat area. i make a short view if is to find anywhere their name at this villages.....at map again the german settlements and their german names in all Danube Swabian areas. scroll down until you see Belgrad (capital of present Serbia) and above of it is Serbian Banat area. when they moved into what is now Croatia so it is left above from Belgrad the western part of area Syrmien (Syrmia) and left of it Slawonien (Slavonia). one of those will be area they lived later at camp: http://www.dvhh.org/map2.htm

as example - found an Oskar Josef Beran at

was an official in Resita/ german Reschitz (1887) and editor of "Reschitzaer newspaper",

The action in his novel "miner's happiness "(1892) takes place in Resita.
http://www.dfbb.ro/content/pdftext/BB_Persoenlichkeiten.pdf
same person also in this list and 2 other Beran:
Eva Beran - nee Lennert, born 29.08.1938 in Deutsch-Bentschek
German primary school teacher in Reschitza (1973 - 1977)
Josef Beran
- born 22.12.1924 in Temeswar (Timisoara, Romania)
- died 3.01.1989 in Reschitza
German middle school teacher in Resita

Resita,Romania - german Reschitz; Croatian: Ričica; Serbian: Решица/Rešica; Hungarian: Resicabánya; Czech: Rešice
