Elizabeth Stores marriage to Bernard Matthews:
December qtr 1850, Sunderland

This is the only Bernard Matthews I can see in County Durham in 1851? ???

1851 census: Class: HO107; Piece: 2398; Folio: 68; Page: 2
George Street, Monkwearmouth, County Durham

Matthews, Barnard  Head  M  27  coal Miner  b Ireland
Matthews, Elizabeth  Wife  F  31  b Ireland
Matthews, Thomas  Son  M  9  b Sunderland
Matthews, John  Son  M  3

Can't see Bernard in 1841?

Her mother, Mary, must have died and Thomas re-married an Elizabeth - still in Sunderland in 1851: HO107/2398/59/40.

I've looked at some Irish sites but can't find anything about Mary to find her maiden surname.

I think the term 'cousin' had a  wider meaning then than it does now.

My goodness you people are clever. Sorry I got the wrong county. Shropshire didn't seem right to me. Thomas Duke was married to a Mullen and then he married Elizabeth Davison.  I'm not even sure if Mullen was Elizabeth's mother. Or the sea captain could be connected to the Matthews but I don't know any other names in that family. Or he might not have been a sea captain at all. And he could be first, second, or third cousin. Thanks for your interest.
