Another Matthew/Mathew Bradford
« on: Friday 21 February 14 09:50 GMT (UK) »
After ages I compiling my information and found another Mathew Bradford who I do not have a baptism for;

On the census Mathew Bradford was born 1827/8 in Great Wakering (Agr Lab). He appears to have died in 1902. He probably married Susannah Keys in 1852.

Can anybody find a baptism for him in Great Wakering?

Although Mathew is with Mary Ann the daughter of Thomas Bradford in 1881 I think is unlikely that he is her brother as she had a brother Mathew born 1834.

He could possibly be the son of Mathew who’s wife Ann was also born at Great Wakering.
Their children were baptised in Southchurch 1829 onwards and their first daughter was Ann but they did not have a son Mathew baptised, so Mathew 1827/28 'fits' here but obviously I need some proof if possible.

I have seen on a Tree that says Matthew Snr married a Ann Neal/Heal about 1829.
Can anyone confirm this marriage perhaps as early as 1827 in the Great Wakering area?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Couldn't find a baptism in great wakering. Went from 1823 To 1829.
Found in southchurch, which is a neighbouring parish:
MATTHEW of Matthew and Ann June 1826. Matthew was a labourer.
Siblings: Thomas 12 oct 1827, Ann 1 feb 1829, william 13 June 1830 (still baptised southchurch, but now living in little wakering), Isaac 2 October 1831, Thomas 14 jun 1834, susan 2 August 1835 (living in southchurch again), Thomas 3sep 1837, james 13 sep 1840, Daniel 23 nov 1844. Didn't find any others after that. Went sse far as 1850.

Ann daughter of Daniel and Mary Neal 16 oct 1803 southchurch.
I think Matthew who married Ann, was born 1801 in southchurch of Matthew Bradford and Susannah watty. They married in southchurch in 1798.

Thomas Bradford marries a Sarah the year before Matthew marries Ann btw. Also from north Shoebury. So Matthew b.1826's uncle maybe?

Spot on I think! And it also reinforces my thoughts that Thomas’s mother was Susannah and not Mary as given on the IGI. There seems to only one Mathew Bradford in the area who married (as you say) Susan Watty. Mathew baptised three sons
Matthew was baptised 28th June 1801 in Southchurch son of Matthew and Susannah Bradford
Thomas Bradford bap 9 Oct 1805 s of Mathew and Mary at North Shoebury
Isaac Bradford bap 21 Jun 1812 s of Matthew and Susanna at Southchurch

Matthew Bradford Jnr baptised three sons Thomas, probably after his eldest brother.
Matthew Bradford Jnr son Mathew was with Thomas 1805 daughter (his cousin) on the census which indicates a relationship.

As there does not appear to be a marriage for Matthew to Mary or any other children baptised with the parents Mathew and Mary then I assumed that Thomas’s mother was Susannah.

Can't find baptism for Thomas Bradford b.1805 in South or North Shoebury or southchurch. Just the marriage in 1825. Strange.
