abandoned child 1940s Inverness
« on: Sunday 23 February 14 19:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

I have a birth certificate for 1940 in Inverness and know that the child did not live with his/her mother when the mother left for England. She had very likely abandoned this child as had done so previously with another child who was left with a family member.

If this one wasn't left with a family member (and I couldn't find a death certificate), would anyone have any idea where he/she would have ended up and if records might be available?

thanks

It's possible if female that she married so a death would be in her married name.

There's also the possibility of her moving, joining the forces etc.

Possibilities aplenty unfortunately.

Thanks ammack.

I know what happened to the mother and where she went but I wondered if the child may have been left in a children's home and if there might be any records available at the genealogical centre in Inverness. I did look up marriage records as well as deaths and didn't come up with anything. I guess it's also possible the child didn't marry when they grew up and is still alive.

It also crossed my mind that the child could have been adopted, in which case I'd be completely stuck with no access to records and probably a completely different name. (Original birth certificate doesn't have a note saying adopted though).

thanks again for your response.
:)
