I wonder if anyone can help me trace Walter Jones ancestry. My husband does not know anything about his grandfathers parents or siblings.
He was born in 9 January 1903 in Wellington, Shropshire and married a Dorothy Hilda Hall who was born 09 January 1907 in Ellesmere, Shropshire. They married in September 1927 in Ellesmere, Shropshire. He died September 1981 in Wolverhampton.

The full reference you need in order to obtain the marriage certificate from the GRO is September Quarter 1927, registration district Ellesmere: vol 6a page 1721. The names are shown on the index as Wlater Jones and Dorothy H Hall.

This is probably his birth

Births Mar 1903
Jones    Walter        Wellington Sh    6a   751

We are not allowed to give details from the 1911 census, but looking at the Free Census there were 4 Walter Jones born 1903 in Shropshire. You may need to get his birth certificate as that will give his father's name and his mother's maiden name. That way you will be sure that you are following the correct family.

there is a marriage of walter jones and Dorothy hilda hall on familysearch 28 sept 1927, but said to have been in Much Wenlock, Shropshire, possibly an error, it does however give walters father as William Jones

There is an online tree with a Sarah Ann Lewis ( 1876- 1940) married to a William Jones, children Charlotte 1899, William 1901, WALTER 1902 and Albert 1906.

In 1901 Sarah and Charlotte are with her parents Thomas and Charlotte Lewis, perhaps because she is expecting the next baby. William isn't there.

Depends how accurate they were on the census I suppose.

I think the only way is to get the birth certificate.
