Hi Hazelnot,
   Welcome to rootschat  :)

Using your information I think I found that Maria married Benjamin BOWTELL and that they lived in Goulburn, NSW , is that correct?  I searched for mentions of them on trove and found a few but not the family notices I was hoping for.  I thought that brother John might get a mention if he was nearby but no luck  :(

regards,
   Ros

Hi there,

Welcome to RChat from me too.

May I add a little local knowledge from Australia regarding some of the info you have posted.

In 1852, Queensland was still part of the British Colony of New South Wales.  The British Colony of Queensland was hived off from NSW in 1859.   Queensland did not receive convicts.   1868 refers to when transportation of convicts to the British Colony of Western Australia ceases.

The Gold rushes commence in NSW in 1851 (gold discovered in NSW, near Bathurst, followed by gold discovered in Victoria, several months later, again in 1851).  If your chap's sister and her husband migrated in the 1840s and were chasing gold, perhaps they went to California where gold rushes occurred from around 1848.  Many people fled from the Australian Colonies to California chasing gold, and then many returned when gold was discovered here in Australia.

Hope this helps your searchings.
