« on: Thursday 27 February 14 14:10 GMT (UK) »
hi board , newbie here .  Trying to track down my granda John Gordons (1902) brother David (1893/94) . We knew he had a brother and they lived in Fountainwell road Glasgow.Laterly Garngadhill road till 1923 ish He also had 4 sisters Isabella ,Annie, Minnie and Mary . The last we heard he had married with 2 boys and a daughter and found out through Minnies grandaughter living in New York via a website   that they were called a John,David and Nancy and mother Agnes . Anyone any ideas how to find them as cant find a birth for david 1893-94 and no marriage for a David or an Agnes . im thinking emigration ? There parents were john Gordon and Isabella McInnes m 31/12/1888. thanks in advance .

Much obliged  ev , as you know Scotlands people costs cash and i was like a headless chicken clicking on all parts of my family instead of concentrating on a few lines , so lesson learned. One plus of that site was i found my Gran Gordons father Robert Clark had passed away in 1906 in Glasgow ,whereas everyone assumed he left the family and headed back to Ireland 1902 ish . Will keep on searching and again cheers  ev ;)

No more specific detail as to where John Gordon was born in 1891:

John Gordon 25 hammerman b. England
Isabel Gordon 20
Isabella Gordon 2
Catherine Gordon 2 months
Barbara Clark 9 step sister b. Glasgow (original image would help you to confirm this entry)

Address: Graham's Land, Glasgow Barony/Dennistoun

One possibility for John in 1871 here https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VBZ1-JTK  Maybe father David had died by now and mother Catherine then goes on to marry a Clark, given the Barbara Clark showing above in 1891? Just a guess for now...

I don't think the link to an English 1871 entry above is correct. This looks a better possibility for John but in Scotland for 1871:

David Gordon 35 masterer (not sure what this is supposed to be?) b. Perth
Kate Gordon 33 b. Midford, Ayrshire
Elizabeth Gordon 11 b. Glasgow https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQDB-W5X
Alexr Gordon 8 b. England
John Gordon 5 b. England
William Gordon 3 b. England

Address: 25 Mansfield St, Partick Govan

One more child that I can see (can't find them as yet in 1881) is this entry for James https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FQP4-D5H

What was father David's occupation from John's marriage entry? Was he showing as deceased by the time of John's marriage in 1888?

Some online trees show John's birth as being: 4 March 1866 in Everton Lancaster (should be Lancashire if Everton is correct) - 19 prince Edwin Street.

Hi Monica , just in from work and saw the work you have done , thanks very much. On the cert 31/12/88 at Hillhouse, Sprinburn  near Glasgow it s got Davids occupation as ironwork labourer and doesnt say deceased . The address for the couple is given as 14 Killearn Terrace , Glasgow .  Its also got an Alex Gordon as a witness( my wee dads name :) ). Its got John as 22 and Isabella as 18 .

It's Friday...hope that is it for you for the week  ;)

Alex as a witness, likely his brother? Everything else such as age etc seems to fit doesn't it. Likely father David was only in England through part on the 1860s for work it seems.
