Monsignor John Rourke born in Leeds 1862
« on: Thursday 27 February 14 16:30 GMT (UK) »
I am told that my great uncle John Rourke (O'Rourke) became a priest and was granted the title of Monsignor for his written works on theology. Apart from his birth year, his parents' names and his siblings' names I cannot discover any more about him. His parents were Joseph Rourke and Jane Terry. His siblings were Thomas (my grandfather), Bartholemew and James (the latter died young, I think).
I have all the Census returns for the family but I can't trace John beyond 1881 when he was a teacher, boarding at Lower Cross Street, Leeds in the house of a relative (Terry). Does anyone know of any archives relating to Seminaries in which priests would train in the North of England? I would like to be able to trace his life and discover what books he actually wrote. I'd be grateful for any help. Thank you.

You might find some help in the Archives section of the Diocese of Leeds website - see http://www.dioceseofleeds.org.uk/archives/

It's not something I know much about, but that seems like a good place to start.
