I am trying to investigate the father of an illegitimate child. I have the father's name and date of birth but need help with other information on the child's birth record.  I am posting the information I need translated.

I have tried my best to translate the information but I would love to have a proper translation as I am sure I may be way off the mark.

My go of it with bits missing:

ein schreiner  ______  von Quettlingburg aus dem  freystadt(?) _________  angegeben  zum Vetter eines unehlichen  kindes

a carpenter (cabinetmaker/joiner)  __________  of Quettlingburg from the freecity(?)  ______ claims  to the male cousin/uncle/male relative one illegitimate  child


If his place of birth (I assume that is what is stated and not just where he lives) is Quettlingberg (Quedlingburg) where can I find church records?  I don't seem to be able to find anything on Family Search.
What relationship is he to the mother/child (assuming my translation of Vetter is correct)?

That's how I read it, though I'm not sure about the name...

I think it says ein "Schreiner Gesell" somebody who finished an apprenticeship of carpentry or a journeyman.

If you are looking at the time of around 1849 there is an address book available for Quedlinburg http://forum.ahnenforschung.net/showthread.php?t=90805

Thanks so much to everyone for your help.

The birth record is from 1775 so it was interesting going through the address book for 1849 to find only 3 people (father, mother, son) with the same surname in 1849.  Thanks Peonie for the link.

Daß er genau den Eintrag wissen wollte, weiß auch ich und hab es getan wie du und apwright, so wie ICH es gelesen habe und bestätigte somit den von dir gelesenen "Gesellen".

i wrote "so no name is stated for him in this part" as apwright thought Gesell is possible a lastname.

Just to clear up the query on the surname - "Gesell" fits perfectly for "journeyman" and is not the surname of the father.
