Birth or Baptism William/Willey Padgett c1866 East Bridgford
« on: Saturday 01 March 14 16:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am at a standstill trying to find the birth of William also known as Willey Padgett c1866 in East Bridgford, Notts.

I know his mother is Jane Padgett b1840, who in the 1861 census is working as a housekeeper for Edward Hill b1810 in Kneeton. 10 years later she is living with her uncle Thomas Padgett and has two children - William and Mary Ann b1869.

I'm guessing the two children are illegitimate and would be interested in trying to find their births and possibly the father!

Any help would be fantastic!

Welcome to Rootschat.

The Notts FHS Baptism CD has these baptisms in East Bridgford:

25 Nov 1866 Willy s/o Jane Patchett single woman
23 Oct 1870 Mary Ann d/o Jane Patchitt

I have Patchetts in my tree (mostly from Notts as well) and the spelling variations are many and various!

I don't know if you already have Jane's baptism c. 1840? The only likely one I can see is in West Bridgford 31 July 1844 d/o Joseph, a labourer, and Jane Patchet.

HELP!!!

 BATHSHEBA BOOTHROYD bn c. 1802 W. Yorks.

Baptism nowhere to be found. Possibly in a nonconformist church near ALMONDBURY or HUDDERSFIELD.

Thanks Jill,

That's great, thankyou for looking that up for me!

I didn't have Jane's baptism, so that will help with a bit more detective work  :) It seems they are definitely illegitamite - the rumour in the family is they were the children of the lord of the manor, but I don't think it likely.

I know, the different spellings of Padgett can be annoying! I also have a Riseborough family line and the variations of that are amazing ;)
